Le 20 décembre 2025 vers 7 h 35, le BEI a déclenché une enquête indépendante sur les circonstances d’une intervention impliquant le Nunavik Police Service. 

Les renseignements préliminaires communiqués au BEI suggèrent ce qui suit : 

• Le 20 décembre 2025 vers 3 h 30, un appel aurait été fait au 911 pour une personne dans un domicile qui aurait posé un danger pour les autres occupants ;
• Les policiers seraient arrivés sur les lieux vers 3 h 36 et ils seraient entrés en contact avec une personne avec une arme à feu à l’extérieure du domicile ;
• Il y aurait eu un échange de coup de feu entre la personne et les policiers ;
• La personne aurait été blessée lors de l’intervention et elle aurait été mise en état d’arrestation ;
• Une autre personne aurait été retrouvée gravement blessée à l’intérieur du domicile ;
• Les premiers soins auraient été prodigués aux personnes par les policiers sur place jusqu’à l’arrivée des premiers répondants ;
• Les personnes auraient été transportées en centre hospitalier ;
• L’état de la personne qui aurait été mise en état d’arrestation est stable et l’état de la personne qui aurait été à l’intérieur du domicile est critique. 

Le Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes a pour mission de faire la lumière complète sur les faits entourant l’intervention policière. Le BEI enquête dans tous les cas où une personne, autre qu'un policier en service, décède, subit une blessure grave ou est blessée par une arme à feu utilisée par un policier lors d'une intervention policière ou durant sa détention par un corps de police.

Cinq enquêteurs du BEI ont été chargés d’enquêter sur les circonstances entourant l’intervention. 

Une enquête criminelle parallèle concernant les événements survenus a été confiée à la Sûreté du Québec.

The BEI announces the launch of an investigation in Inukjuak on December 20, 2025

On December 20, 2025, at approximately 7:35 a.m., the BEI launched an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding an intervention involving the Nunavik Police Service.

Preliminary information provided to the BEI suggests the following:

• On December 20, 2025, at approximately 3:30 a.m., a 911 call was reportedly made regarding a person in a residence who posed a danger to the other occupants;
• Police officers arrived on the scene at approximately 3:36 a.m. and encountered a person with a firearm outside the residence;
• An exchange in gun fire ensued between the individual and the police officers;
• The individual was reportedly injured during the intervention and was arrested;
• Another individual was reportedly found seriously injured inside the residence;
• First aid was administered to the individuals by the officers on the scene until the arrival of emergency medical personnel;
• The individuals were transported to a health centre.
• The condition of the individual who was arrested is stable, while the condition of the individual who was inside the residence is critical.

The mission of the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes is to fully shed light on the facts surrounding a police intervention in which a person dies, sustains a serious injury, or is injured by a firearm used by a police officer. The BEI is a specialized and independent police force that conducts its investigations with transparency, impartiality, and objectivity.

A parallel criminal investigation into the events has been entrusted to the Sûreté du Québec, which will act as the supporting police service for the BEI.
