<p class="text-justify"><i>English will follow</i></p> <p class="text-justify">Le 7 mai 2025 vers 00 h 13, le BEI a déclenché une enquête indépendante sur les circonstances d’une <a>intervention</a> impliquant le Nunavik Police Service.</p> <p class="text-justify">Les renseignements préliminaires communiqués au BEI suggèrent ce qui suit&nbsp;:&nbsp;</p> <ul><li><p class="text-justify"><span>Le 6 mai 2025 vers 22 h 30, les policiers auraient localisé une personne recherchée</span> <span>à l’intérieur d’une tente ;</span></p></li><li><span>Les policiers seraient alors entrés en contact avec la personne et ils auraient utilisé du poivre de cayenne afin de faire sortir la personne de la tente ;</span></li><li><p class="text-justify"><span>La personne serait sortie de la tente munie d’une arme blanche et elle se serait dirigée en direction des policiers ;</span></p></li><li><p class="text-justify"><span>Un policier aurait utilisé l’arme à impulsion électrique (AIE) pour maîtriser la personne ;</span></p></li><li><p class="text-justify"><span>Un policier aurait fait feu en direction de la personne qui aurait alors été blessée par tir policier ;</span></p></li><li><p class="text-justify"><span>La personne aurait été transportée dans un centre de santé où son décès a été constaté.</span></p></li></ul> <p class="text-justify"><a><i>Le Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes a pour mission de faire la lumière complète sur les faits entourant l’intervention policière. Le BEI enquête dans tous les cas où une personne, autre qu'un policier en service, décède, subit une blessure grave ou est blessée par une arme à feu utilisée par un policier lors d'une intervention policière ou durant sa détention par un corps de police.</i></a></p> <p class="text-justify">Cinq enquêteurs du BEI ont été chargés d’enquêter les circonstances entourant l’intervention.&nbsp;</p> <p class="text-justify">Vu les circonstances de l’événement, les services de soutien d’un corps de police n’ont pas été requis dans ce dossier.</p> <p class="text-justify">Aucune autre information n'est disponible pour le moment.</p> <p class="text-justify"><a>Le&nbsp;BEI&nbsp;demande à quiconque aurait été témoin de cet événement de communiquer avec lui via son site web au&nbsp;</a><a href="https://www.bei.gouv.qc.ca/nous-joindre.html" target="_blank">www.bei.gouv.qc.ca/nous joindre</a></p> <p><strong>The BEI announces the launch of an investigation in Kangiqsualujjuaq on May&nbsp;7, 2025</strong></p> <p>On May&nbsp;7, 2025, at around 12:13&nbsp;a.m., the BEI launched an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding an intervention involving the Nunavik Police Service.</p> <p class="text-justify">Preliminary information provided to the BEI suggests the following&nbsp;:</p> <ul><li><span>On May 6, 2025, at around 10:30 p.m., police officers reportedly located a wanted person inside a tent;</span></li><li><span>The police officers reportedly made contact with the individual and allegedly used pepper spray to get the person out of the tent;</span></li><li><span>The individual reportedly came out of the tent armed with a bladed weapon and moved toward the police officers;</span></li><li><span>A police officer reportedly used a conducted energy weapons (CEWs) to subdue the individual;</span></li><li><span>A police officer allegedly fired in the direction of the individual, who was reportedly injured by police gunfire;</span></li><li><span>The individual was transported to a healthcare facility, where their death was pronounced.</span></li></ul> <p class="text-justify"><i>The mission of the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI) is to shed full light on the facts surrounding police interventions.
