Le 2 février 2026 vers 12 h 20, le BEI a déclenché une enquête indépendante sur les circonstances d’une intervention et d’une détention impliquant le Nunavik Police Service.

Les renseignements préliminaires communiqués au BEI suggèrent ce qui suit : 

• Le 30 janvier 2026 vers 22 h 06, les policiers auraient procédé à l’arrestation d’une personne à la suite de sa fuite ;

• Les policiers auraient amené la personne au sol ;

• Les policiers auraient transporté la personne en détention vers 22 h 15 ;

• La personne serait demeurée détenue jusqu’au 2 février 2026 où elle aurait été transportée en centre hospitalier pour une blessure grave ;

• L’état de la personne est jugé stable.

Le Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes a pour mission de faire la lumière complète sur les faits entourant l’intervention policière. Le BEI enquête dans tous les cas où une personne, autre qu'un policier en service, décède, subit une blessure grave ou est blessée par une arme à feu utilisée par un policier lors d'une intervention policière ou durant sa détention par un corps de police.

Cinq enquêteurs du BEI ont été chargés d’enquêter les circonstances entourant l’intervention. 

Vu les circonstances de l’événement, les services de soutien d’un corps de police n’ont pas été requis dans ce dossier.

The BEI announces the launch of an investigation in Kangiqsujuaq on February 3, 2026

On February 2, 2026, at approximately 12:20 p.m., the BEI launched an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding an intervention and detention involving the Nunavik Police Service.

Preliminary information provided to the BEI suggests the following:

• On January 30, 2026, at approximately 10:06 p.m., police officers reportedly arrested an individual who had fled;

• The officers reportedly took the individual to the ground;

• The officers reportedly transported the individual into custody at approximately 10:15 p.m.;

• The individual remained in custody until February 2, 2026, when they were transported to a hospital for a serious injury;

• The individual's condition is considered stable.

The mission of the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes is to fully shed light on the facts surrounding a police intervention in which a person dies, sustains a serious injury, or is injured by a firearm used by a police officer. The BEI is a specialized and independent police force that conducts its investigations with transparency, impartiality, and objectivity.

Given the circumstances of the event, the support services of a police force were not required in this case.
