Access to Information and Privacy

Looking for a document? Please refer to our Publications and Distribution of Information (in French) sections. In accordance with the Regulation respecting the distribution of information and the protection of personal information, a number of documents are already available. You can also consult the answers provided to access to information requests (in French).

How to make an access to information or document request

Access to information or document requests must be made by phone or in writing to the access to information officer. However, under the Act respecting Access to documents held by public bodies and the Protection of personal information, only a decision on a written request may appealed to Commission d’accès à l’information.

Each request must include a precise description of the document sought.

An access responder can assist anyone requiring help to make a request and find the document they seek.

The access responder has 20 days to respond to a request. This may be extended by 10 days if necessary. The officer must subsequently provide the applicant with written notice.

Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes may, on the grounds expressly provided for in the Act respecting access to documents held by public bodies and the Protection of personal information, refuse to confirm the existence of information contained in a document and refuse access to all or part of certain documents.
