BEI is a government body composed of Québec public servants and members appointed by Cabinet. The application procedure varies depending on which position interests you.

To join the team of employees

To apply for a regular or casual position at BEI, go to Québec government careers portal and follow the application instructions.

To become an investigator

To fill its investigator positions, Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes draws up a list of people qualified to carry out this work and publishes recruitment notices in one or more Quebec media describing the job requirements and other relevant information.

For more information, consult the Regulation respecting the selection procedure and the training of investigators of the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes and regularly check the newspapers and BEI’s website.

Prerequisites

In accordance with Section 289.11 of the Police Act, applicants for the position of investigator at Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes must

  • Be Canadian citizens
  • Be of good character
  • Never have been convicted of a Criminal Code offense

Candidates cannot be peace officers, other than as investigators for BEI.  

If applicants are or have been peace officers:

  • They must have at least five years’ experience in conducting integrity of the person investigations.

Applicants who are peace officers when they apply must undertake to resign their current positions once hired by BEI.

If the applicant has never been a peace officer:

  • Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree in a job-related discipline.

Successful applicants must take the training program for BEI investigators, in accordance with the Regulation respecting the selection procedure and the training of investigators of the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes.
